What is cloud hosting indeed? The word 'cloud' seems to be quite fashionable in today's computing, Internet and web hosting lingo. However, only a select few actually are aware of what cloud hosting is. Possibly it is a clever idea to inform yourself about cloud hosting services. To render a very long story succinct, we will firstly inform you about what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Hosting is Not Restricted to a Remote Data Storage Only.

1. Furnishing a remote data storage solution, which involves one single file storage tool for all users, does not turn any particular hosting service provider into a real cloud hosting solutions provider.

The cPanel hosting vendors name the ability to furnish remote file storage services a cloud hosting solution. Up till now there is nothing wrong with the cloud labeling, but... we are discussing website hosting services, not remote file storage solutions for individual or business needs. There's constantly one "but", isn't there? It's not enough to name a shared hosting solution, driven by a single-server hosting platform, exactly like cPanel, a "cloud hosting" service. That's because the other fractions of the entire hosting platform must be operating in exactly the same way - this does not apply solely to the remote disk storage. The remaining services involved in the whole hosting process also have to be remote, separated and "clouded". And that's extremely tough. Very few hosting suppliers can truly do it.

2. It Involves Domain Names, Email Boxes, Databases, File Transfer Protocols, Hosting CPs, and so on.

Cloud hosting is not restricted to a remote disk storage solely. We are talking about a hosting service, serving plenty of domain names, web pages, email box accounts, etc., are we not?

To call a hosting service a "cloud hosting" one calls for a lot more than furnishing simply remote disk storage mounts (or possibly physical servers). The e-mail server(s) have to be dedicated solely to the e-mail connected services. Executing nothing else than these given procedures. There might be only one single or perchance a whole assortment of mail servers, determined by the overall load produced. To have a true cloud hosting service, the remote database servers should be working as one, regardless of their real amount. Doing nothing else. The same is valid for the clients' hosting Control Panels, the File Transfer Protocol, and so on.

3. There are Cloud Domain Servers (DNSs) as well.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of an actual cloud hosting distributor will support numerous server farm locations on different continents.

Here's an illustration of a DNS of an actual cloud hosting plans provider:

dns1.www.jb1hosting.com

dns2.www.jb1hosting.com

If such a DNS is furnished by your web hosting provider, it's not a guarantee that there is a cloud web hosting platform in use, but you can definitely be confident when you see a DNS like the one below:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud web hosting platform. This sort of Domain Name Server plainly exhibits that the hosting platform in use is one-single-server based. Probably it's cPanel. cPanel is a single-server hosting solution and maintains a market share of more than 98%. In cPanel's case, one single physical server tackles all hosting services (web, e-mail, DNS, databases, FTP, web hosting Control Panel(s), web files, etc.).

Remote File Storage - The Twisted Interpretation of Cloud Hosting.

So, a cloud hosting service is not limited just to a remote data storage service, as multiple hosting firms wish it was. Sadly for them, if that was the case, the majority of the file hosting providers would have been categorized as cloud web hosting ones a long time back! They are not categorized as such, because they plainly distribute file web hosting services, not cloud web hosting services. The file web hosting platform looks really quite simple, in comparison with the web hosting platform. The remote data storage platform is not a cloud hosting platform. It cannot be, since it's just one small component of the entire cloud web hosting platform. There's plenty more to be discovered in the cloud web hosting platform: the hosting Control Panel cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the DNS cloud, the FTP cloud, the e-mail cloud and... in the near future, maybe a bunch of new clouds we currently are not acquainted with will turn up out of the blue.
